Your wellbeing

If you're in crisis right now.

If you are having thoughts of suicide, of hurting yourself, or of not being here anymore, please reach out before you do anything else. You are not alone. Help that actually helps is one phone call away.

988, Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
Free · 24/7 · confidential · call or text. Speak with a trained counselor immediately.

What 988 is, and what to expect

988 is the U.S. national mental health crisis line. You can call or text from anywhere in the country and reach a trained counselor, usually within seconds. It's free. They will listen, help you think through what's happening, and connect you with local resources if you want them. You stay anonymous unless you choose otherwise.

If 988 isn't the right fit

  • Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741. Counselor responds by text, no voice needed.
  • Veterans Crisis Line: Dial 988 then press 1, or text 838255.
  • The Trevor Project (LGBTQ+ youth and young adults): 1-866-488-7386 or text START to 678-678.
  • Trans Lifeline: 1-877-565-8860.
  • SAMHSA National Helpline (mental health and substance use): 1-800-662-4357.

If you're not sure it counts as a crisis

It counts. If you're considering whether to call, that's enough. The counselors there talk with people in all kinds of situations, including caregivers exhausted past their limits, people who just need to say things out loud, people who aren't sure why they're calling but called anyway. There is no minimum threshold.

If someone you love is in crisis

The same numbers work. You can call or text on their behalf, or alongside them. Stay with them. Take it seriously. Most people who survive a crisis come to be glad they did, and the help they get in the moment is part of how that happens.
